Remove swingarm

Postby paulb » Wed Jun 06, 2012 1:10 pm

Hi
the swingarm on my sp1 has a few marks on it (heat from exhaust pipes and tarnishing from weather), so I want to remove it and either polish or powder coat it, ideally I would like to powder coat it in silver to keep it looking stock.
What is the best way to lift the bike? I have an nws pro stand, its the same as an abba stand, so that uses the swingarm mounting nuts. NWS seem to have closed and the Abba swing arm removal kit will not work with it.
I could possibly lift it from the roof with ratchet straps but I wouldnt like to leave that weight hanging for long and the bike would also be unstable.

Cheers
P

I have hung bikes before, but always block to the bottom of the engine to take the strain off the rafters and straps.
Cant comment on the stands .

Is it safe to leave the weight of the bike resting on the engine for long?
Also, did you do anything to stop the bike from being pushed left/right?

I used 4 straps ,and only put some weight on the engine block.
If you have a modern garage with spindly joists use a bit of 4x2 and span several joists to spread the weight load.
left my 918 early blade hanging for about a month :D

Over the winter removed the swing arn form the SP2 with the abba swing arm removal kit, which was origionaly bought for a Hayabusa that I had. Are you sure that it will not fit? Here is a picture of mine suspended on the abba swing are kit. I have taken out the lowest allen key on the footrest assemblies to mount the abba kit.

There a load more pics that might help you on here:
