Whats up with the offset pegs?

Postby hanberg » Wed Mar 14, 2012 7:44 pm

So Ive gotta ask, as Ive been wondering for quite a while.
Compared to the centerline of the bike, the left side of the frame where the pegs are mounted are offset because of the chain.
This makes sense, but why are the peg also longer on this side, making the difference from the right side even greater?
I would have thought the right side peg would be longer, to make it the same length from the centerline as the left side...

 Hmm! from the colours I don't think that original HRC Steve :ugeek:

Hamberg...Step away from the ruler. Next you'll be telling us you have one leg longer than the other so not to worry because it all cancels each other out :?

Hehe, its just that when I noticed every now and then, the feel through the boot is different from side to side, and me being a perfectionist, I just get more and more annoyed... Think Ill pick the ruler and have some spacers made up 8-)

And the results are in, for those with similar OCD, this is the data.

The left side peg is offset an additional 15mm from the centerline of the bike compared to the right side.
Add the 10mm longer left peg on my Sato rear sets (wonder why?) and the difference is 25mm!
Now to disassemble and play with washers 8-)
