Cant wait to see how this comes out, checking this thread daily for updates. I've actually got a spare swingarm myself and was wondering if I could do something with it, although this looks a bit out of my league.

Not much to report folks, Ive de stickered the side panels (what a job that was!!! yikes) and flatted them back ready for paint. andI have access to a bridgeport mill on saturday to finish the rear axle blocks. then the swingarm will commence in anger (:-) and lets face it thats what we all want to see..

Oh Ive decided to run longer cans as well to minimise the pipework on show (450mm rater than 380) upshot is Ive got to move the brackets I put on the subframe the other week, but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

H e res the 2 pipe lengths note the bracket position.. can will probably move forwards another inch or 2. Less pipe equals less heat ? I hope..

Maybe I'm jumping the gun as you obviously have a fair way to go with this project but a question that keeps springing to mind is will the swing arm still be strong enough with that much cut away in that area?

It's a fair question. It won't be anything like as narrow as it looks in the photo. We're now cutting off everything from the casting back. The section will be about 35mm all the way from the rear blocks to the casting. The blocks are going to be 10mm further back effectively extending the mean wheelbase by 10mm. Benefit of this is that it creates clearance in front of the tyre to keep the swingarm sufficiently beefy. If you look at the cabin works bikes the side profile of the swingarm is less than the stock sp2 bike. So overall I'm sure strength won't be compromised. Hope this answers? Proof will be in the pudding so ill only know for sure when I've got something I can stress test :-)

A bit of progress. Finally Got Some Time On A Friends bridgeport milling Machine And finished the axle blocks. I'm pretty happy with them. Next step swingarm butchery. Probably after Christmas now but I can least get it jigged up ready. The quick release adjusters will be made in January to match the blocks. I'll cnc them owing to the shape.
