Drain tank

Postby paulb » Sun Feb 09, 2014 3:57 pm

Hi
what is the easiest way to drain all the petrol out of the tank of an sp1?
My bike is in the garage for 2 years and i am getting it back on the road soon, I want to empty out all the petrol out of it and put in some nice fresh petrol. Do I need to remove the tank or is it ok to just syphon it out?

Cheers
P

There is no simple way ,syphon is probably your best bet.
I wish I had a quick connector rated at the right pressure for my fuel lines.
When I removed my tank last time ,got soaked :(

Siphoning is probably the easiest way.
Leave the bike on the side stand and get a pipe right back into the bottom left corner of the tank. I'd then put some injector cleaner in the tank, remove the spark plugs, and crank the engine over to get the cleaner into the injectors. Let it sit over night and then fill up with some fresh fuel and take it from there.
The cranking should also help getting some oil moving back up to the top of the engine but you could take the rocker covers of and splash a bit around by hand if you wanted to be really cautious.

Good luck!
I hope it's not all varnished or gummed up
