Manual says to remove "unbolt, move rearwards slightly and then lift off while holding apart" or similar, so get it almost as forward as it needs to go and then stretch over the top.

Posted: Thu Feb 16, 2012 5:28 pmif its a genuine unit they take a lot of abuse, but whatever you do re fit the black plastic bushes where the two fixings are on top. you can change the fixings for normal dome head bolts but the seat will crack if you dont fit the bushes! 
just pull the unit apart near the lugs underneath, slide it down then forwards. simples

I hate doing it. but everytime I'm about to give up and smash it to pieces, I think about a cup of tea and it goes on fine.
