sp1 oil filter question

Went to service the sp1 and noticed my new filter was a 303 and what was on the bike is a 202. So when I researched it apparantly the 00 sp1 uses a differant oil filter to the 01 due to a higher oil pressure. Anyone else ever hear of this? Rang a main honda dealer and he told me a 303 is all he has listed on his system

Yep. Came across the same thing myself a while back. Contacted K&N filters directly as they had a 303 and a 204 listed for the SP. Exchanged several emails with a Don Marshall (Technical/Sales Executive) at K&N Filters Europe.
The answer, from "the horses mouth" so to speak was that the KN-303 was the correct fitment for a 2000 SP-Y and the KN-204 was the correct one for the SP-1.

Hi there, just a quick question. I have been looking at your oil filters for a 2000 HONDA SP-1. I am a bit confused as to why there are two part numbers relating to this application, namely KN-204 and KN-303. Can you tell me what the difference is between these two filters and which in fact is the correct one for the bike.

But only on the filter cross reference for the KN-204 does it list it as a direct replacement for Honda part 15419-MCJ-505

KN-303 is suited to the 2000 manufactured model and KN-204 to the 2001-2002 mode.
